Dr Heather Moore

Dr Heather Moore is a Senior Scientific Officer within the Fisheries and Aquatic ecosystems Branch of ABFI, joining DARD AESD in 2000. She is responsible for Shellfish Aquaculture Management within the Coastal Zone Group. Since 2002, Heather has provided scientific advice to DAERA for research and development in the shellfish aquaculture sector. Other work areas include collaborative projects looking at factors that affect the sustainability of the shellfish aquaculture industry in Northern Ireland; this includes investigations of: potential sources of contamination such as E.coli and PAH’s; monitoring non-indigenous species that effect shellfish movement; development of spat collectors to provide an alternative source of seed mussel for the bottom grown mussel industry; monitoring growth and working with the industry to improve capacity. She is a member of the Productive Seas Evidence group (PSEG) and the ICES Working group on Ecological Carrying Capacity in Aquaculture (WGECCA). Heather is involved in a number of local and national projects including; an Ecosystem catchment modelling project focused on Dundrum Bay in Northern Ireland, to two BBSRC grants and she is a partner in the H2020 Green Aquaculture Intensification in Europe (GAIN) project.
