Data in aquaculture programme
SAIC has teamed up with fellow Innovation Centre, The Data Lab to offer a series of interactive sessions for business leaders in the Scottish aquaculture sector which will take you beyond the hype surrounding data so that you can identify the right opportunities for your organisation.
The business world is awash with buzzwords where many are to do with ‘going digital’ and the use of data. It can seem overwhelming at times as we navigate through the noise to find out what is important. In the process of either being enthralled or intimated by these trends, we can often lose sight of the fundamental question: “How do I drive business value from this?” and “Where do I start…without spending too much money?”.
Data can be a differentiator for your business, but if your data activities are not integral to the execution of your strategy, they are unlikely to be successful and you will probably stumble from one false start to the next. In the business world where the pace of change is ever increasing, specifically in the data space, it’s time to stop being bamboozled by buzzwords and start driving value by doing.
Session 1: the art of the possible – 7 July
Let’s get excited about the outcomes you can achieve through the better use of data.
Using case studies, we explore the ways in which people drive value from data so that you can start to identify the opportunities within your own organisation. We also look at the various stages of data maturity, to help you identify what you might want to do next. There will be breakout discussions and many opportunities to get your questions answered.
There is some pre-work to allow us to travel at pace. There is no need to send this in, it’s just for your own benefit throughout the session:
- Familiarise yourself with your organisation's ambition / strategy
- Score yourself 1 to 5 on ability to drive value from data
- Read a short case study
- Have a copy of the data maturity matrix handy for discussions
- Set up Mentimeter on phone or have access to website
Session 2: organisation maturity – 14 July
Let’s get real about where you are now with your ability to drive value from data.
Building upon session 1, we explore organisational readiness in terms of what you need in place to make sure your data initiatives succeed. We bring this to life by sharing real world experiences. There will be breakout discussions and many opportunities to get your questions answered.
This session’s pre-work (again, no need to send in but for your own benefit):
- Read the case study data value mapping and watch a video
- Complete the data analytics maturity template for your organisation
- Have a copy of organisation readiness matrix handy for discussions
Session 3: successful execution – 21 July
Let’s get tips and techniques for getting started.
Building upon the previous two sessions, we identify some of the barriers organisations face executing their data plan, then we share tips and techniques to help you overcome them. There will be many opportunities to get your questions answered.
This session’s pre-work (again, no need to send in but for your own benefit):
- Watch a few videos by experienced aquaculture practitioners where they share tips.
- Complete the full analytics maturity template for your organisation.
This programme is available at no cost for Scottish aquaculture professionals and is best suited to those working in industry. Delegates will be expected to commit to the three sessions.
