SAIC Introduces: Aquafarm Equipment Scotland

In the latest 'SAIC Introduces' instalment, we learn about Aquafarm Equipment Scotland – a leading aquaculture company built on extensive experience and proven fish farming technology developed in Norway.

Roar Paulsen (SVP UK) explains further: “By combining Norwegian expertise with a strong local presence, Aquafarm brings pioneering closed-containment solutions to Scotland’s aquaculture sector — designed to support sustainable seafood production and the protection of marine environments.

“The company’s mission is to deliver high-quality, sustainably farmed fish by combining cutting-edge technology with a deep respect for the environment. Aquafarm’s fiberglass-reinforced structures ensure 100% escape security, protect fish from parasites, and optimise water quality through deep-water intake and UV treatment. This approach not only benefits the fish but also minimises environmental impact and enhances the overall efficiency of their operations.

“Aquafarm believes that thriving fish lead to broader benefits, including reduced pollution, minimised food waste, and increased profits. Their approach starts with creating healthier habitats, which in turn supports the wellbeing of the fish and the sustainability of their operations.

“The journey of Aquafarm Equipment began with the launch of their first full-scale system in 2013. Since then, they have expanded their operations and now have two full-scale facilities in operation. One of these facilities, located at Mowi's Vindsvik site, has been operational since 2013, while the other, at Salmar's Seterneset site, has been running since 2021. These installations serve as proof of concept for Aquafarm’s ability to deliver healthier post-smolt with significantly reduced disease and parasite issues.

“In addition to these operational facilities, Aquafarm is actively involved in several innovative projects. One of their flagship projects includes a large-scale facility in the Red Sea, showcasing the company’s commitment to international collaboration. This project highlights Aquafarm’s ability to adapt to various environments and deliver solutions that meet the needs of the global aquaculture industry.

“Their dedication to sustainability is further demonstrated through their zero-footprint fish farming vision. By prioritising fish welfare and implementing advanced technologies, Aquafarm Equipment Scotland is setting new standards for the aquaculture industry and leading the way towards a more sustainable future.”
